STE(a)M Studios Overview
Our STE(a)M Studios is a business product design program for high school students (grades 9–12) in Washington, DC. Teens explore real-world innovation by applying the Design Thinking process to YEI’s Social Enterprises and Community Projects.
Each Studio Track runs approximately 36 hours: 16 hours of immersive learning plus 20 hours of collaborative project time.
Studio Tracks include:
- BizBeauty – Cosmetic and candle making activities
- BizTee – Pro-bono apparel making for nonprofits and schools
- BizMake – Laser cutting, 3D printing, website development, and prototyping
- BizGrow – Nutrition, agriculture, gardening, and food science
- BizKits – Designing “business-in-a-box” and STEAM kits for kids ages 9–13
The program is designed to build STE(a)M skills, creativity, and community impact—equipping youth to lead with innovation and advocacy.

- Strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Boost self-confidence and personal responsibility
- Earn a Design Thinking Badge
- Optional: Get paid $17.50/hr teaching ages 8–12
- Earn 0.5 college credits for participation

BizKits Studio – Fall 2025
Help design and create “businesses-in-boxes” and STEM kits for children aged 9–12. Great for future educators and designers.

BizBeauty Studio – Fall 2025
Create candles and cosmetics promoting self-love and mental health awareness. Contribute to our Good Hair & Scented Futures lines.

BizTee Studio – Fall 2025
Design apparel for nonprofits and schools using screen printing and vinyl. Support Native and You Dream, We Design brands.

Get hands-on with laser cutting, 3D printing, and website prototyping. Ideal for creative tech leaders and makers.
